After I install SEP as an unmanaged client on a Server 2008 R2 machine, the Network Threat Protection is not present in the Status page of the user interface.  The firewall does appear to be running because all ips are blocked after installing SEP.  I have gone to remove programs and removed Network Threat Protection, rebooted, added it back, and rebooted again, however it will not display in the UI.  I have even tried completely uninstalling SEP and reinstalling it however that did not work either.

    Any suggestions?

you need to reboot the box to get the NTP  gui.
    Did you reboot?

    start run
    ncpa.cpl
in the properties of local area network
check if you have teefer2driver, if so uninstall it.
    reboot the box
install NTP component again from add / remove programs

The GUI is still not showing NTP, however the firewall must have installed becuase it is blocking all incoming connections.

I ran cleanwipe, everything was removed successfully.  I then reinstalled SEP and rebooted.  The firewall again appears to be active but is not showing in the GUI.  Again this is a Server 2008 R2 box that has absolutely nothing else installed on it besides the Domain Controller Role.

Are you using the latest build of SEP 12 (12.0.1001.95)?

I am using the version that we just received in the mail today (Version. 12.0.122.192).  I just installed this on another Server 2008 R2 box and got the same result no firewall in the GUI.

Try using the latest build 12.0.1001.95. Your version may not support the R2 server OS. I am awaiting confirmation from the Product manager, I will update here when I have the official word on this.

You can get the build from these locations.

The official word is 12.0.122.192 does not support the R2 OS. You will need to upgrade to 12.0.1001.95.

Why would the the box have a sticker on it saying Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Ready?

I do not know the answer to that. Where did you purchase the software? Was it from an authorized Symantec reseller?
If you have a valid serial number, you should be able to get an upgrade. I would contact the the person that sold you the package, and see what they have to say. Keep us posted on your progress.
