Hi all,

I'm on evaluating SEP 12 and due to my tests I have a few questions and I hope that some experts could answer it.

- We plan to install SEP 12 on Windows 2008 standard Server on ESXI 4... is this an issue? I will not install it on the MS SBS 2008 Server.
- Is it possible to use a own SQL 2008 DB instead the default DB?
- Is it only possible to connect the console direct on the machine or is there any remote posibilities like over Web or MMC to manage SEP 12?
- How can I protect the SEP Client so that the users cannot change anything (some users have admin rights on XP)?
- It seems that SEP 12 has still some performance issues..? On my Testserver, the CPU runs sometimes with 100%.

Thanks in advance for your help

Test Phase ** Answers

Hello EoEGuru

Assuming you are referring to SEP SBE 12.0 (which is different from SEP 11.x)

1) It should work on Win 2008 Server ESXI 4.

2) You cannot use SQL 2008 DB. You have to use default DB

3) Remote machines can be used to connect tot he management console. You can use a browser and attempt to connect to the server on port 9090

4) Most of the configuration settings like AV/AS have locks within the Policy configuration. If you click on the lock, the policy cannot be changed by the end user.

5) That should not be the case. Significant enhancements have been made to improve performance of both the client and server. When the CPU hits 100% is it temporarily or does it stay sustained? Do you get a chance to open the Task Manager and sort based on CPU utilization to see which process is taking high CPU utilization?

3. Make sure to type

3. Make sure to type http://(ip or hostname):9090
4. The padlock icons are for locking down the client settings
5. Check the available drive space on the volume that the Symantec Manager is installed on and verify that there is adequate space available.
Also try stopping and restarting the Symantec Endpoint Protection Service to bring the processes back to their normal state.
