  • 1.  SEP 12 Unmanaged Client with logging

    Posted Jun 03, 2013 04:35 PM

    Hello:

My office runs SEP12 in an unmanaged roll so our clients are not getting updates pushed or pulled at intervals were they are over a 3G connection.  Our clients always update when they are over wifi or hard lined.  YES we have good end users, because it is a part of their work contract.

But what I am looking for is the ability to be notifed if a virus is detected.  Does anyone have any info if this is possible?

Can only be done if clients are managed thru a sepm.

    Hello,

You can  convert your client in to manage.

If it remote branch then configure the policy to getting the update through GUP. If it main branch then configure with mobile over internet.

Configuring mobile computers to automatically download definitions when disconnected from the Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 Management console

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH177361

So will be possible to get the alert.

How to Configure E-mail Alerts in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM)

    Hi,

All client needs to be managed by SEPM, and by creating two locations you can achive the updating via 3G.

    Regards

All central logging / reporting/ notification is only possible with Symantec endpoint manager. If you dont want to install SEPM coz of additional hardware/ maintenace cost. You could try Symantec cloud.

    Update:

I do have SEPM for my office based computers / servers and that works great.  But as a constructions / engineering group we have alot of our employees who work in the field over expensive satellite / cell connection. It would be nice for these machines to connect when they want to (When at home on wireless / LAN) and not in the field,  but it would also be nice just to receive logs about virus' from them.

Make all of the clients managed per this KBA

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO55039

Than you can use location awareness so when clients go off the network, they can get updates from a Symantec LiveUpdate server. When they're on the network, they can get their updates from the SEPM. You will than be able to get logs from the clients and accomplish what you need for alerts.
