  • 1.  SEP 12.1 and Skype incompatible?

    Posted Aug 17, 2011 01:24 AM

    Skype for business version 5.5.32.113
    SEP version 12.1

When skype is signed in, and SEP enabled, clicking the start menu or rightclicking the taskbar takes anywhere up to a minute.
Task manager shows the system is basically idle, no spikes or high CPU usage.

If I disable SEP using the rightclick Disable option, the above actions are immediate.

I cannot see any rules being triggered in the logs.
If Skype is not installed everything runs fine.

Is there anything I can do to stop this? I have several users who use skype extensively, and this could be a major problem.

    Thanks,
    Alan.

When we disable SEP using the rightclick Disable option, actually we only disable the firewall (NTP)

    SEP is still running

I would suggest to create a FIREWALL  rule to allow traffic from skype.exe

    Hello,

Does SEP provide you any error Message??

Could you check the Logs from the SEP clients like Risk Logs, Threat Logs, Packet Logs, Security Logs and see if anything is detecting the same??

Your SEP IPS may be detecting it.  If yes, try this

    Open Sepm

1Go to Policies --> Intrusion Prevention Policies
2.Right Click Edit --> On the Exceptions tab
3.Click Add --> Look for the ID ( Skype id)
    4.click Next
    5. On the Signature Action select "Allow" and click OK.

You could also try uninstall Network Threat Protection on that particular machine and check if Skype works??

    Hope that helps!!!
