  • 1.  SEP 12.1 causing problems with backups

    Posted Sep 20, 2011 09:20 AM

    Hi All,

I have problem with backups on Windows 2008R2 Server. I'm using windows server backup to make backups, but after installation of SEP12 backups are failing. I found that it is because wsb cannot delete old version of backup (database). Everytime I will get in backup error log this statement:

Error in deletion of [D:\System Volume Information\EfaData\SYMEFA.DB] while pruning the target VHD: Error [0x80070020] The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Alsou found that there are handles for SYMEFA.DB on all drives opened by system process immediatelly after start of system, checked by process explorer.

When I disable SEP situation is the same. After SEP uninstall all is working fine - no errors in bakcup log and no opened handles by system process.

Could somebody advise me how to solve this?

    Thanks,

    David

    From SEP

disable File system Autoprotect and Tamper protection during backups.

try this setting from the SEPM console or locally on the client

    • Open Symantec Endpoint Protection Client
    • Click "Change Settings"
    • Click "Configure" for "Antivirus and Antispyware Protection Settings"
    • Click the tab labeled "File System Auto-Protect"
    • Click the button labeled "Advanced"
    • Change "Scan when a file is accessed or modified" to "Scan when a file is modified"
    • Uncheck "Scan when a file is backed up"
    • Click Ok
    • Click Ok again
    Close Symantec Endpoint Protection Client

    Hi Rafeeq,

I have tried these settings already but withou success. Even when I completely disable SEP issue is still here. I found that this SYMEFA.DB is symantec related file. I have already even tried to exclude this file and folder from backup, but also withou success.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi All,

I found that SEP11 is not causing this issue as it is not creating this file: System Volume Information\EfaData\SYMEFA.DB.

I think there is some bug in SEP12 which is causing backups not working.
