In SEP 12.1 client computer,there is no LiveUpdate 3.3 in Programs and Features

Dear Support

We are using SEPM and SEP  12.1.1000.157 RU1. We can find LiveUpdate 3.3 in Programs and Features on SEPM server, but there is no such program in client computer with SEP installed. May we know if LiveUpdate is no longer be a individual program in 12.1 on client? In SEP 11, we can uninstall liveupdate on client computer by removing liveupdate in Programs and Features,

Q1: how can we reinstall it in 12.1 client computer if this is no long available?

In SEP11, when liveupdate is running, process LUALL.EXE and LUCOMS~1.EXE will be triggered. According to http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/few-differences-between-sep-11-enterprise-edition-and-sep-121-enterprise-edition , Liveupdate is inbuild in SEP 12.1 client,

Q2: then what executive programs replace  LUALL.EXE and LUCOMS~1.EXE, or what programs is related to Liveupdate in SEP 12.1?

Sometimes we enocuntered liveupdate problem, SEP cannot connect to LUA server or there is update on LUA server, but 0 can be downloaded

Q3: How to do troubleshooting when liveupdate fail?

From SEP 12.1 Liveupdate is integrated with SEP.

Liveupdate is inbuild in SEP 12.1 client so luall.exe won't work on SEP client. But luall.exe is supported on SEPM machine.

On SEP clients you won't find liveupdate under control panel to customize settings.

As new LiveUpdate Engine (LUE) content management technology  is introduced with SEP 12.1,

LUE is a new feature introduced into Enterprise products with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 in 2011. In SEP 12.1 clients, LUE replaces the traditional Windows Live Update (WLU) processes, files, directories and so on that were used in SAV and SEP 11.

NOTE The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) still uses a Windows LiveUpdate client to download its materials from internet LiveUpdate servers (or from an internal LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x server).  The SEPM with a SEP 12.1 client will have both the WLU files (LuAll.exe, LuComServer_3_3.exe, LuCallbackProxy.exe, LuConfig.exe) and LUE libraries (LuEng.dll, LuSvc.dll, LuCtl.dll, LuSub.dll).

User-facing LU logs can be found in View Logs > Client Management > View Logs > System Log

No need to reinstall liveupdate, LUE engine is smart enought becaues if it's corrupted it will repair himself automatically.

To troubleshoot liveupdate related issue on SEP clients you can always refer liveupdate logs.

More detailed information about why LiveUpdate failed can be found in the following log file:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Log.LiveUpdate

Check the following file for error in LiveUpdate.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\12.1.671.4971.105\Data\Lue\Logs
