Hi Pete,

Thanks for the useful information.

Is there any document like this about the files used for tasks.
I can see so many .exe files in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection" location. I just want to know for which task which file will be executed.

Identifing typical running processes would be useful

Hi all,

I'm in agreement with vjk, it would be useful to know the typical processes that SEP 12.1 runs for troubleshooting purposes.

For example it appears that on a Windows7 system that I have the following processes running;

ccSvchst.exe

ccSvchst.exe *32

SMC.exe

Are there others?

For example, under 11.xx when Proactive Threat Protection was active, I would see COH32.exe or COH64.exe running.

I would think that Symantec would have some readily available list of processes and what they do, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

more complete list

Hi,

these a bit longer list:

www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102748

It is still no complete but, frankly, it is not so useful to have it for troubleshooting.

It is much better if you focus on the debugging:

How to debug the Symantec Endpoint Protection:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102412

How to debug the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager:
www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102413

Please, be sure you are able to switch the debugging on, this is the most common thing you will asked to do when you will call the technical support after your basic investigation.

Regards,

Giuseppe

Hi Beppe,

Thanks for te valuable information about debugging.

Since I'm a L3 engineer and handling multiple antivirus products, I wanted to know which file is used for which task in Symantec Endpoint Protection.
