  • 1.  SEP 12.1 Disable Auto Play?

    Posted Sep 22, 2011 09:17 PM

We upgraded from 11.6 to 12.1 about 2 months ago and some users have contacted me about auto play not working any longer on their workstations, which me and my IT manager have already discussed disabling auto play anyways, but I am not sure if Symantec is the cause in this or something else. I noticed all PC's on the network will not run auto play. For instance, when a user plugs in a camera or puts in a CD the auto play does not work, even if I log in as admin it does not work. What is odd, if it is Symantec causing this is that users seemed to have had no problem using auto play at first after the upgrade. Does anyone have any info on this? Is there a setting in the management console that can help me know whether symantec is causing auto play to be disabled? I have check the anti virus log files and did not see anything.

    Hello,

There is a Quick check which you can perform on the SEPM.

    1) Check if the Application and Device Control Policy has been applied for the Autoplay.

    2) Check the Articles below which may assist for the same.

Preventing viruses using "autorun.inf" from spreading with "Application and Device Control" policies in Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 11.x

Preventing a virus from using the AutoRun feature to spread itself

Symantec Device and Application Control rule does not block the autorun.inf files – Autoplay window get displayed

    Hope that helps!!

    Yes, you are correct.

SEPM 12.1 will block autorun.inf by default.

Check your Application & Device control policy.
