SEP 12.1 Internet Email Auto-Protect and CC.Net Mail issues
Hi
I'm having a problem with sending mail via a continuous integration server (Cruise Control.net). I'm not sure whether the issue lies with CC.Net or with SEP, so any help with diagnosis would be really appreciated!
I have a small C# app that uses the .Net SmtpClient class to send mail via the company's smtp server. When I run this from the DOS prompt, the mail is received instantly.
When I run the same C# app through cruise control, the mail doesn't get sent, and the smtp connection times out.
However, if I then disable the Internet Email Auto-Protect option and try again, the mail gets sent with no problems.
There are no logs in SEP related to this at all.
The machine is running Win7 x64, SEP version 12.1.1101.401 (Release), RU1 MP1.
(I've seen a few mentions of Internet Email Auto-Protect not being supported on x64 machines - is that still the case?)
Any help with working out what the problem is would be great!
thanks

On the Advanced tab for Internet Email Auto Protect, uncheck the outbound worm heuristics option and try again to see what happens

Thanks both
Disabling the NTP didn't help. Neither did unchecking the outbound worm heuristics option.
Have a look at this KB:

I know our IT department is loathe to remove it. I've asked whether we can remove/disable it - I've also pointed out the 'not supported on x64' to them.
I'll just have to try again...
thanks!
Hello,
The Article highlighted above by Brian is for SEP 11.x and not for SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1.
Email scanning is for sure Supported in all 64 bit machines installed with SEP 12.1.
The Symantec Endpoint Protection client also provides outbound email heuristics scanning. The heuristics scanning uses Bloodhound Virus Detection to identify the risks that may be contained in outgoing messages. When the client scans outgoing email messages, the scan helps to prevent the spread of risks. These risks include the worms that can use email clients to replicate and distribute themselves across a network.
Email scanning does not support the following email clients:
IMAP clients
AOL clients
HTTP-based email such as Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail
In your case, it is recommended to either change the port usage by your application (if possible) OR Disable the Internet Email scanning.
Hope that helps!!

Yes I understand all of that, I'm simply asking if there will be an updated KB for 12.1 relating to Internet Email Auto-Protect?
Not everyone who is searching will stumble upon the above and may not know this. An update to the existing KB with 12.1 information would be ideal.

Please refer to the Page 63 of the Client guide of SEP 12.1 RU2
I have made necessary changes to the Article and published.
