Endpoint Protection

Hello,

I've been an SEP 11.x user for a while and am starting to install 12.1. We use unmanaged clients. With v11.x, I had to adjust the timeout setting for liveupdate from 45s to 360s in the settings.liveupdate file, in order for the clients to be able to download some larger-sized definition updates (it's not a proxy server issue). I'm trying to do the same in v12.1 , but am unable to locate the settings file. I'm working on a 64-bit windows7 laptop and the 64-bit SEP client. where can I change that setting ??

I've looked for that folder before, but couldn't find it...

only things there:

C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection

C:\ProgramData\Symantec\DEFINI~1

no 'liveupdate' folder can be found on the system

Did you check for hidden folders? as per the below doc. it should be there.

By default application data is hidden folder.

all hidden folders are showing...system folders as well...no sign of liveupdate folder..see attached image

There is no settings.liveupdate file on your SEP client. In 12.1, Symantec replaced LiveUpdate with LiveUpdate Engine, which is embedded in the client. Therefore, the common LU files are missing.

Well, I did fear you would raise this question

I have no clue and did not find comprehensive stuff about LiveUpdate Engine. Of course, LU can be configured in the SEP GUI, but I didn't find a setting or registry entry for SEP-inherent timeout configuration.

Let's hope the smart crowd here will solve the mystery.

Could you please try to search settings.lue file on your root directory.

Or 

Go to C:\program data\ Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\Data\lue\logs

If you are still not able to find pls let me know.

the timeour error:

REQUEST_ERROR - connection timeout 12002 (0x00002EE2), result API_RECEIVE_RESPONSE.

it's a windows basic timeout error. not the usuall liveupdate (error 1835)

The client can pickup most updates, but the virus signature file was much larger and that's why it got the timeout error.

Unable to find settings.lue...a full system search found just one file with the .lue extension and it was the log

There is a tool called Lucontrol APP you will need to use this tool to change the timeout settings, you can get in touch with support team to get this tool.
