SEP 12.1 on Mac OS X not updating defs

  • 1.  SEP 12.1 on Mac OS X not updating defs

    Hi..

     

    NO matter what I do, I cannot get the defs to update on a few of our Mac clients.  I've ran the content update command from the SEP console, even ran Live Update manually on them.  While stuff does happen int he background, and the Live Update app says that it's downloading and isntalling files, the dates of the defs do not change either in the SEP gui or on the endpoint

    These Macs are all running 10.8.5 and are set to download updates from the Symantec LU server, not an internal one.

    Anyone help???

    whats the defs date on the mac clients?

    Do they use any kind of proxy?

    Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) Mac OS X clients are not updating definitions when a proxy is in use

    We do not use any proxy.  The definition date is 10/16/13 r16

    Can you post liveupdt.log.

    LiveUpdate log should be here: /Library/Application Support/Symantec/LiveUpdate/liveupdt.log

    You can try applying the Intelligent Updater to one or two machines and see if they start working again. You can get them here: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definiti...

    Hi ooshnoo,

    My first recommendation would be to upgrade this SEP fro Mac client to the brand-new SEP 12.1 RU4, which uses a completely different method of getting content thatn the current Java LiveUpdate.  It also downloads a new type of definitions.  There's something inconsistent with the defs on your current client: curdefs should not be that old!

    Replacing the defintions entirely with the new RU4 style should fix that.

    I'm sorry, I didn't mentioned that I'm in an enterprise enviroment and it's not only one machine. Doing it every week (updating definitions once at week) would be improductive.
     
    Other thing to clear is that not all of the clients (550 aprox.) are presenting this problem, but every day apearse at least one more.
    I've detected the problem with Power PC and Intel clients; With 12.1.2015.2015 and 12.1.1000.0157 versions; And with OSX 10.5.8, 10.6.8, 10.7.5 and 10.8.5.
     
    I'm not sure if it is being caused by a new patch (OS / JAVA) or something like that. Do you have more information?

    New definitions have been released which should resolve the issue- please run LiveUpdate now and report back on whether or not the macs update successfully?
