Hi all needing a soluction.

I had my computer recently installed with SEP 12.1 and the technician told me that he had to install the windows 7 version in order to install the windows 8 version. at first my skype and yahoo messengers were working. now a week later they are not and I have tried disabling my firewall even tried turning off SEP and it still does not allow either program to work or fuction. I uninstalled both and yahoo installer is popping up that i need to check my firewall settings. I have my settings set to notify me when things are trying to connect to the internet but nothing is popping up for either program.

is there any solutions out there to help me...

check the SEP firewall logs, it might give you the rule which is blocking the messenger

So even without SEP it still does not function?

I have not tried uninstalling SEP, I have turned off SEP and it still does not work. I have also checked the logs and it is not showing up there.

I would uninstall completely to verify if SEP is even the issue. If SEP is the issue, turning it off should've revealed that.

well I read a little while ago in a different forum that if you turn off SEP it is still running actually, but I will try uninstalling it completely and hope it works.

The problem when something stops communicating is usually due the firewall, if you stop the firewall traffic will pass uninspected.

well right now I cant reinstall SEP I have the install disk at work right now, I am at home and I do not have a way to get the disk right now.

did not work on uninstalling my SEP, now I tried reinstalling it and now it is saying there is an error with the antivirus and spyware that I am not protected. if it is not one problem it is another. really getting frustrated with this program...

So skype still doesnt work even after removing SEP?

Skype still does not work even after I removed SEP, Same with yahoo messenger, Microsoft office outlook with connecting to the internet. seems like almost no programs are able to connect to the internet

I do remember that they all worked before I went on a work trip but I had to change a setting in my internet browser to get connected to the hotels internet, I am not sure if I have my internet browser back set to working correctly

First, I would troubleshoot the internet connectivity issue. Sounds like this could be the problem all along. Could be the it's trying to use a proxy to connect.
