SEP 12.1 RU2 and Internet Explorer 9
Created: 16 Jan 2013 | 12 comments
I've one machine where, with SEP 12.1 RU2, Internet Explorer 9 becomes so slow to be unuseful.
If I uninstall it, everything returns to the normality.
I've tried to disable the add on in IE options but nothing changed.
It's strange because in all other machines (same OS and same IE version) this does not happen.
What could I check to identify the issue?
It's not a SEP-only-retlated problem but I think some sort of interaction with something.
Thanks!

Please ensure the machine has all latest (Januar 2013 Microsoft patches).
Is the SEP Browser IPS Protection Addin = SEP Vulnerability Protection enabled on IE?
You can start by installing one component at a time to determine the root cause.

In my case, I tried to remove the components and leaving just the antivirus but the problem is still there...
Did you disable auto-protect to see if that is it? If everything else is removed, Auto-Protect is the only thing left, disable and see what the result is.

I think it not the issue from SEP side but for the confirmation you can stop the SEP service for one day and check the IE performace.
I have also faced the slowness/hang with same version but i removed and installed the previous version.

I also think is not "SEP only related" problem, but the fact that if I uninstall SEP, Internet Explorer returns normal let me think the issue is caused but some sort of interactions.
The problem is: which ones?
And how could I troubleshoot them?
Hopefully when you removed the AV, system speed got increase which observed by Symantec client. Due to that IE work fine without AV. Now you can install the old version of SEP client on that system for testing and check the performance of IE.
I sure that this issue is in IE because i was the same prblem in SEP 11.X version and only in IE 9.

Hi,
Could you please let me know what Process is taking the highest CPU & memory usage and how much?
Is the SEPM performing any aother activity other than being a SEPM server?
Does your system have minimum system requirements?
Note: Intel Itanium IA-64 and PowerPC processors are not supported.
Or-
Please login in SEPM and go to the policies tab -->click on virus and spyware protection --->Right click on virus and spyware protection policy --> click on edit --> click on download protection --> click on download insight --> Uncheck the Enable download insight to detect potencil risk in downloaded files based on file reputation.
