    Thanks Chetan!

It should be noted, more importantly than the Release Notes (which omit this), that this update also addresses multiple Security Vulnerabilities in the SEP Manager and Client:

When you say client patches are not available does that mean that updating SEP to 12.1.6 MP4 will not have any upgrade for the client anti-virus software? So the clients will still be running the older version while the SEPM server can be updated?

We know 12.1.6 MP4 is 12.1.6860.6400.  BUT Client Patches made available are to 12.1.6867.6400.  WHY to 6867.6400?

They should be Patches to 6860.6400

    What is going on?

    Hi Roberta,

SEP 12.1.6867.6400  (RU6 MP4) is the correct version.

Refer this guide: Released versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH154475

    Where do you see 12.1.6860.6400?

    "Where do you see 12.1.6860.6400?"

I have that version as well for SEP client - I got it from FileConnect within the Full Installation package of v12.1.6 MP4 which I downloaded on 18th March 2016.

Have we got the wrong version? Should we have got that version - 12.1.6867.6400 ? What has been changed between both of these versions?

    Please advise - thanks.

  • 26.  RE: SEP 12.1 RU6 MP4 is now available to download.

The TechNote was updated yesterday. I received an email about it. No mention of why it was updated or why the version changed from 12.1.6860.6400 when it was released in March, to 12.1.6867.6400 as of yesterday.

FileConnect has been updated with the new version.

What's going on here? An explanation is in order.

It would be great to get an explanation. It leaves us (valued?) customers out in the dark.

Were there any changes, bug fixes, new features, etc.? Why no explanation from anyone at symantec?

Last I checked I'm paying good money to use the product. Most every other vendor I use is on top of their game with things like this and I don't think it is too much to ask -- Better Communication.

    Thanks for sharing with us.

That put my plans in chaos as I was planning to use v12.1.6860.6400 of SEP client for Build Images. Now because Symantec has changed the versions, it left me wondering if there has been a security/bugs/whatever with v12.1.6860.6400 which means I am not sure if what I have is safe for us to use & deploy or not.

I echo ℬrίαn comment - we need to know what has been changed/bugs/security fixes.

SEPM has been updated to 12.1.6867.6400 as of yesterday as well.

The dates on my 12.1.6860.6400 files are 3/7/2016. The dates on the 12.1.6867.6400 files are 3/22.2016. So we know something has changed. And, why are we just now finding out about it when it changed less than two weeks after the initial release?

I just got through upgrading all of my servers and PCs with what I thought was the latest version, mostly because of the security vulnerabilities in MP3.

Come on Symantec. Fess up. It's not as bad if you just let us know what is going on.

Just finished downloading the latest Full package and there is a file size difference, so something has been added.

    v12.1.6860.6400 - Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6_MP4_Full_Installation_EN.exe - 718,963,792 bytes

    v12.1.6867.6400 - Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6.MP4.Full_Installation_EN.exe - 719,656,200 bytes

Mine, too. They went so far as to change the version numbers of the Mac and Linux versions as well. That rarely happens unless something did change.

SEPM import packages changed in size.

    • SAV32.dat went from 66,734 down to 66,859.
    • SAV64.dat went from 84,422 up to 84,558
    • SEP_Linux_Deb.dat went from 29,403 down to 29,399
    • SEP_Linux_rpm.dat went from 39,244 down to 39,239
    • SEP_Mac.dat went from 22,808 up to 22,824

CleanWipe has been updated, and is now dated 3/22/2016, and the CleanWipe.db file is larger now.

What's changed Symantec? Is it something we need to be worried about?

12.1.6860.6400 is the version most everyone seems to be running but that was the original version number when 12.1.6 MP4 came out. That is, until something was just recently changed without communication to customers. The KB article you linked was updated yesterday with the new version number. Care to explain?

More poking around reveals Best Practices for upgrading page was updated yesterday.

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH163700.html

The What's New page was updated yesterday, but doesn't explain what is new between 12.1.6860.6400 and 12.1.6867.6400.

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO101888.html

The New Fixes page was updated yesterday, but doesn't explain was was fixed between 12.1.6860.6400 and 12.1.6867.6400.

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.INFO3517.html

I would imagine that if I took the time to go through the compenent versions listed in the New Fixes page, they would be different versions from 12.1.6860.6400 to 12.1.6867.6400.

Come on Symantec. You owe your customers an explanation.

When you posted this thread announcing the release of 12.1.6 MP4 the released version was 12.1.6860.6400.

    Now 12.1.6 MP4 has changed to 12.1.6867.6400

And there is NO indication of what changes were made between 12.1.6860.6400 and 12.1.6867.6400

Please let us know what the changes were, & did these affect SEPM &/or Clients &/or???

    Thank you very much,

I asked the same questions last week re: the change in version (after upgrading my SEPMs with 6860) and was told this by my Symantec support contact:

"There was a certificate problem with the original MP4 build (12.1.6860.6400) which caused *some* but not all customers issues during the installation of the maintenance patch. If you didn’t encounter any problems during the installation, then you should be covered and protected from the vulnerability.

Symantec engineering resolved the certificate signing issues and produced an updated build (12.1.6867.6400), thus the difference in the build numbers of 6860 vs. 6867."

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Certificate problem is something to be taken seriously due to ongoing threats, so I am actually disappointed that Symantec has not communicated this with us 'customers'.

  • 43.  RE: SEP 12.1 RU6 MP4 is now available to download.

    Posted Apr 26, 2016 10:30 AM

It would have been nice to have received some kind of official communications from Symantec about this certificate problem, especially since the need to upgrade was because of a security vulnerability in the SEP client. A simple acknowledgment of the difference would have sufficed. Instead someone says "what change?"

Is communicating a change really that hard?

Symantec released a newer version of MP4 and didn't tell anyone. It was to address a cert issue. If you didn't have the issue there is no need to upgrade.
