Newly installed SEP 12.1 unmanaged client on Windows XP 2002 SP3 - always shows "Proactive Threat Protection is Disabled". Tried enable it but nothing happen, no logs generated. Tried liveupdate and generated the logs below:

Event Computer User Logged By Description
SONAR engine is enabled x x SONAR SONAR has been enabled
SONAR definitions load error x x SONAR SONAR has generated an error: code 0: description: Definition Failure

    Can anyone help? Many thanks!

    Back up registry first

Go to HKLM\Software\symantec\Symantec endpoint protection\AV\Storages\SymheurprocessProtection Delete the entire key in Bold

And then repair Sep client from add remove program

    Reboot the machine and check

Note Back up registry first do not make changes if this a critical box .

Would you recommend this if this is occurring on all clients to include the server where SEPM is installed?

No not on server machine try it on 1 client machine with problem to narrow down and find the root cause
