  • 1.  SEP 12.1.6 MP3 Unmanaged Client Failing On Install to Server 2012 Standard x64

    Posted Feb 29, 2016 01:46 PM

I'm currently setting up 2 new servers, both with Server 2012 Standard installed (not R2). We're installed SEP as unmanaged clients on both and running into an issue when installing. They're being installed with basic protection (Custom setup, reduced size client, only Virus, Spyware, and Basic Download Protection installed). On one server (the Terminal Server) it blue screens prior to the install being completed, on the other (the Domain Controller) it gets through the install and runs Live Update then reboots. Upon the reboot I get to the desktop, when I click on File Explorer all icons disappear from the screen and task bar then reappear as if explorer.exe crashed. In both situations I have to use Clean Wipe to uninstall and get things working again. With the blue screen the message that I'm getting is SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT HANDLED.

Can you try doing the install with only the core components?

If you check the %temp% directiry, is there a SEP_INST.log or SIS_INST.log file available?

I just did the install with only the core components and it worked.

Now go back and add any components you need and see if it remains stable.

I went to add components and the installed prompted me that it had to reboot first so I did.
Upon reboot the service failed to start with this in the event log.

(NOTE: This is on a Terminal Server)

I tried going through adding Basic Protection anyway but that didn't go through and ended up rolling it back.
