  • 1.  SEP 12.1.6 vs 12.1.2 detection rate

    Posted Jun 25, 2015 03:44 PM

Does anyone know if v12.1.6 offer better protection agains malware than 12.1.2?

Not talking about fixes or performance issues.

Is there a new scan engine or feature since 12.1.2 and 12.1.6? If so, would this engine help detect threats faster or more accurately?

    Thanks for any answers.

There should be no difference. The same content for 12.1.2 is used for 12.1.6

With respect to protection technologies, I believe that they both perform the same functions.

However, all versions of SEP clients 11.x and 12.x running Application and Device Control, earlier to 12.1 RU4 MP1b, are vulnerable as mentioned in the below link.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH223338

Symantec Suggested upgrading the SEP clients to the latest version to address any known vulnerability as well as to address a few product issues.

    Hi,

SEP definitions remains same for all the versions so we can say protection level remains same & we do recommend to use the latest SEP version to get benefitted by new features and enhancements.

If you checked SEP 12.1 RU2 & RU6 fix notes, at the bottom you can see components & their respective version details.

    RU6 fix notes: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH230558

    RU2 fix notes: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH199676

If we talked about features, In most of the cases like 'Host Integrity' policy was introduced in SEP 12.1 RU5, unless client is on the same version policy can't be implemented. So to use all the latest features SEP client should have latest version.
