  • 1.  SEP 12.1RU1 on Win 7 64bit installation

    Posted Feb 29, 2012 04:49 AM

    Dear Symantec,

I'm trying to install SEP 12.1RU1 on one of my machine installed with Win 7 SP1 64-bit, but it surprisingly give me an error about missing file.
In my case, it's "Checksum.exe" which path is <My_Optical_Drive_Letter>:\SEPx64\Program Files\Symantec\Name\Version\Bin

    1. Do the "checksum.exe" really exist on the path?

I've checked the sha1deep against yours after i downloaded the RU1, and it's the same.

    2. And why i'm unable to install the 32-bit on my 64-bit machine?

    thanks,

    Bram

Can you please try to run cleanwipe on the affected system and then install it again.

May be this issue relates to Microsoft, after googlling I found the below document:

Open Task Manager and stop Mdefbuilder, then click on the continue button. The installation will complete as expected.

Also check if the location that you have selected actually exists.

    I don't think it's Windows-related error.

Besides, both KB's links do not apply to my current system specification.

Of course, the path exist. It's just it was trying to locate checksum.exe that not exist on the path.

I've searched on the root of the DVD; no file with such name found on the DVD's structure.

Maybe another thing for Symantec to fix ?

    * By the way, I downloaded the RU1 on Jan 2012; are there any fixes released and re-uploaded after?

    * And please answer ny 2nd question: why am I not able to install 32-bit SEP 12.1RU1 on my 64-bit machine?

found a solution for the problem...

I created an installation packages by:

    1. Running "Install protection client to computer" from SEPM Home - Common Task

    2. Select the package, feature and setting

    3. Choose "email & weblink" option

    4. and wait for SEPM to complete creating "my installation package".

    5. Asked (several) clients to check their inbox and click the link provided to download the package.
