SEP 12.X Beta:Firewall is Malfunctioning

Created: 20 May 2011 • Updated: 20 May 2011 | 12 comments

I installed the client unmanaged version of SEP on my laptop. The install completed successfully. After I rebooted I now receive errors about the firewall.

I put my cursor over the notification icon and it give me a status of "Firewall Drive not loaded".

I am using Windows 7 x64.

Thanks in advance!

Disabled Windows Firewall.

Ran a repair install of SEP.

Errors are now gone!

Thanks ITGuy, this is useful information - we should be managing the interaction better here, but I know there were a few bugs here that we still had to work out.

It should be working much better in the release.

I am using the RTM version (version 12.1.671.4971) and are having the same problem.  This is a XP 32-bit machine.  I tired the fix the ITGuy suggested, it seem to work fine.  However, the same problem comes back as soon as the machine got restarted.  Any suggestion?

Thanks.

Charles/R Chan,

Can I request you open a tech support case and submit for further analysis. You can do this by clicking on the SEP icon Help -> Download Troubleshooting tool. Once the logs are collected, proceed to open a TS case.

Thanks.

It was frustrating to have installed a new version of SEPM 12.1 along side a Symantec tech support person then have all the clients experience problems with Firewall, Sonar, Proactive Threat Protection, etc. "Repairing" the program corrected all of these issues.

Hi Guys
i have the same issue.
Windows Xp Sp3 - frirewall is malfunction
Teeferinstall.log shows teefer is installed successfully
Run cleanwipe and reinsatlled it also didnt help
Jus one machine is facing this issue in the network
SEP client version is 12.1 Ru1
I refer to a couple of threads on forums which suggesed to reinstall NTP.
When I try to uninstall NTP so i can reinstall it rolls back
This is a fresh installation
I had a support cases where the engineer said that the issue could be due to
teefer is not binding with the network card.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Teefer2\Parameters

However, we were not able to proceed on this case due to some reason i had to move out of country and my support license has expirted and the case was closed since it was idle for a month

Please help

Dear All Boy,

I was facing the same issue but only in Laptop computers. I did the same you tried but no luck finaly I installed a fresh Windows than I was succeeded.

The most common reason for the issue is that it already have an old version of SEP e.g. 11.x.

Good luck.
