Hi all,

I have a very weird issue where SEP is blocking access to the Microwoft and Windows Update sites. I have to disable the client to get access and patch a few lose systems.

Has anyone seen this before and if so, is there something special I should be enabling/disabling in the config?

I'm running SEP 11. MR4 MP1 and it happened in prior v.4 MR4 releases as well.

Thank you for the assistance.

Log all the rules that are

Log all the rules that are set within the firewall policy.

Access the update sites again. Check the logs to see what rule is blocking it. Accordingly you can create a new rule to counter it and move it to the top.

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"

Not using the firewall, same issue on XP and Vista

Hi guys,

Thank you for the response and feedback.

Here's what's interesting about this and I may have worded the question incorrectly. I can access the site but I get this message,

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

I'll update the question ttopic.

And obviously

Obviously you are using a Windows machine as well as Internet Explorer?

You are not using, by default a different browser such as Safari, Opera or Firefox when connecting to obtain the updates from the M$ update site?

What about.

What about using a WSUS server to download and install the updates across the board for your systems?

You can run it in a VM, and have it attached to a server if you are lacking ressources (physical machines) and push out from there.

Coming back to your earlier post, are you having this problem on all your machines, a single machine or a group of machines?

Using Microsoft IE 7, problem is across multiple systems

Hi guys,

Thank you for the feedback and responses.

Yes, i'm using IE to access the site. As I had mentioned, when I disable SEP I can access the site as it should and download the updates/patches. Turning it back on give that MAC response.

Jason, these are just test boxes that I use inmy lab, didn't want WSUS on them because of what i'm testing and why and the frequency of rebuilding the boxes.

Not using VMs right now for this.

Thank you,

~TITSSN~

Stealth Mode Browsing...

I had this same issue on a few stand alone clients as well as  yahoo.com stating that I didn't have a supported browser... IE7 and IE8 and I just found out that stealth mode browsing was turned on. I turned it off and all is well again.
