  • 1.  SEP blocking Skype Updates

At one of my clients, the CFO uses Skype for "legitimate purposes".  We use SEP 11.05 on the network,  There are no real problems using Skype, but when he chooses to update  Skype from the Help menu, he gets a popup saying "SID: 21206   Skype requesting updates (1) detected".   Skype then tells him that it appears he has no connectivity to the Internet, and it looks like some sort of threat protection also cuts him off from the entire local network for about 15 minutes.

Being the CFO, he insists that SEP's "interference" be turned off, and is unlikely to abandon Skype as a tool.

From what I can see, this is is some sort of block related to Skype's behaviour.  There are no explicit rules I can see which specifically block Skype.

How can we turn off whatever is blocking Skype updates?

your SEPM IPS is detecting it
    try this
    open sepm

.1Go to Policies --> Intrusion Prevention Policies
2.Right Click Edit --> On the Exceptions tab
3.Click Add --> Look for the ID ( Skype id)
    4.click Next
    5. On the Signature Action select "Allow" and click OK.

For notification disabling follow this id.

    1. Go to Clients tab in SEPM, then the client group you want to remove this ability from.
    2. Click the Policies tab on the right, then expand 'Location-specific Settings'.
    3. Click on 'Server Control', then Customize.
    4. In the Intrusion Prevention Notifications Uncheck the "Display Intrusion Prevention notifications."

Thanks, that seems to work (can't tell 100% though, as we manually installed the latest version of Skype and can't fully test the help, check for updates menu option until there's a new version available.)
