Does it require to reboot the client to do the upgrade from RU1 to RU1 MP1 ?

I'm trying to do the upgrade seamlessly with less downtime if possible to the servers and clients.

You can create customize installation package if you dont  want to restart client machine after deployment or schedule the restart time.

You may set your installation package to "no restart"so you can control it but it does not mean you can avoid it and the SEPM just reflects it.

 Migrating the SEPM would not require any reboots. However, when Migrating the SEP clients you may require a reboot of the SEP client machines. Network Threat Protection (firewall) drivers would require a restart of the machines to get themselves activated. However, these could be taken care off by creating custom package and avoiding the restart of machines.

Hi John,

Since you are upgrading the clients. You can go with two ways,

First one,

You can download the patches form the below link to upgrade form RU1 (12.1.1000.157) to RU1 MP1 ( 12.1.1101.401)

Second one,

If SEPM has the RU1 MP1 client packages then assign those packages on the groups,

Both methods doesn't ask for a reboot but it is always recommended to reboot the machine. You can schedule for a reboot during non business hours.

From RU1 to RU1 MP1 doesn't require any restart. No worries . to stay in the safe side, always cofigure the installation settings with "no restart".
