SEP client Antivirus and Antispyware Protection not updating

Created: 17 May 2012 | 3 comments

I am asking this as someone who is unfamiliar with SEP. One of my co-workers is the expert on this, but was in a meeting at the time. I am newer to using SEP and am looking to more broaden my knowledge. We have a client on our network (who just so happens to be my boss) who's Antivirus and Antispyware Protection definitions haven't updated in almost 9 months. He is on Windows 7 and we are using SEP version 11. His Proactive Threat Protection and Network Threat Protection are updating just fine. I tried putting him into a container on our SEP console labeled 'Workstation Update' but that didn't seem to work. I found an article on this forum that said his update file may be corrupted and that registry items needed to be deleted and whatnot. The same co-worker knew of this fix and performed it on the client, which it seems to be working fine. We are in the process of upgrading to SEP version 12 this summer, but I was just wondering why this happened and why we weren't notified of this? Is there some sort of notification we need to turn on to catch issues like this? Is this a known issue and how can we prevent this in the future?

You can pull the reports from SEPM to find out which all clients have out-of date virus defs. For this system you can update it manually . Have a look at this KB

Here are the steps you need to follow:

1) Stop and Disable the Windows Firewall Services from services.msc

2) Make sure you have the UAC (User Account Control) turned off.

3) Restart the machine.

4) Start > Run > type "Luall.exe" (without quotes)

If that does not help, Download the Latest Intelligent Updater from:

Check the Steps on how to:

Hope that helps!!
