I can't install Symantec Endpoint Protection. I have tried numerous times to install the client via the Migration and Deployment wizard. The files from the package get deployed to workstation. However it will stop and all the files will be deleted except for vpremote.exe. I then tried to install it as unmanaged client. I get an error that says; "The configuration for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel."

    Hi,

This is generally caused due to the corrupt registry entries for Symantec. Please take a BACKUP of your registry before doing the following changes.

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.

In the Run dialog box, type regedit and then click OK.

Navigate to the following registry key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\UpgradeCodes

Look for and remove any of the following values:

    E761730C408BDBC4D825D7A248EB45F3
    20A7FB42A06BB49448A397B3CB77ED4D

    0DE336A57D5E56D4BAD835DE34152048

Navigate to the following registry keys, and verify that none of the above values appears:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Installer\UpgradeCodes

seems like the problem is with windows installer

take a bakup of your registry.

Navigate to and select the key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command

In the right pane, double-click the (Default) value.

Delete the current value data, and then type:

    "%1" %*

    Type the characters: quote-percent-one-quote-space-percent-asterisk.

     Close Regedit utility.

try the install again, if it fails then you need to try this

download windows installer and install it again

Thanks for the help with that. I am now able to install as a unmanaged client. I am not able to deploy with the client with Migration and Deployment Wizard. I tried to import communication settings to change to managed client, but didn't work. When I try to use the Migration and Deployment Wizard the package gets copied to the client, how ever after copying the files they are then removed and all that is left there is vpremote.exe.

on how many clients you are having the issue?
if its one client. you can copy your package to your client machine and run the setup.exe locally
this should install and make the client as managed.

I looked in the SEP_INST.LOG. There was an error that listed a missing registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\814B986DA53209240A5A7AE594E03015\SourceList\Media. I went to a machine that installed properly and exported that entry and then imported it on the problem machine. I was then able to use the deployment wizard.
