  • 1.  SEP client for linux

    Posted Oct 08, 2014 02:17 AM

    Hi all,

We are planning to install SEP 12.1 RU5 clients in our test environment on linux systems. The document that symantec has given contains steps to install and uninstall SEP on linux.

Most of our servers will be managed remotely using command line interface. So i was just wondering how can i get SEP client information like definitions installed for all SEP componants, server address to which SEP client is pointing to, SEP group the client is put in to etc. using command line interface (bash shell).

Can anyone help me out with this?

    Regards,

    Darshan

Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux, which allows Linux clients to be managed through the Endpoint Protection Manager

If your Linux computer includes a graphical user interface (GUI), the Symantec
Endpoint Protection for Linux client displays a yellow shield notification area icon
on the status tray. The icon provides information about whether the client is
connected to a management server and the protection status.
You perform most management tasks using the command-line interface. However,
you can use the Symantec Endpoint Protection client GUI to perform the following
    tasks:
    ■ Review information about the version of the product and the virus definitions.
    ■ Check the status of the client's protection, which includes whether Auto-Protect
is enabled, and the status of any scheduled scans or manual scans.
    ■ Run LiveUpdate to get the latest virus definitions and product updates.
    ■ Get information about whether the client is unmanaged, or is managed and
connects to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to receive updated policies.
You can also perform these tasks from the command line.

    Hi,

You can pull these info from the SEPM console as well.

The enterprise version of Symantec Endpoint Protection now includes the Symantec Endpoint Protection client for Linux. The Symantec Endpoint Protection client for Linux replaces the Symantec AntiVirus client for Linux and supports a greater range of distributions and kernels. Added distributions include Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (RHEL) 6.5 and CentOS 6.5

SEP for Linux clients can now be managed by an RU5 SEPM, or later. Configuration enhancements have been made to the SEPM to allow policy creation for managed Linux clients. This includes AV policy settings, centralized exceptions, and LiveUpdate settings. The SEPM also features enhanced reporting for Linux clients, including the SEP client version, host OS details, and hardware details.
