There is a detailed client to Manager communications report in SymHelp.  You can choose 'Scan for common issues' and this report will be generated under the reports tab.  This will determine if the client is configured to communicate with a manager, which managers it is configured for, if DNS is resolving to IP and will directly test whether the client can reach each of the managers.
