Ok i am new so please forgive me.... but now that I have SEP setup and even the SEP solution in NS6.. I can deploy SEP client via NS6 and they show up in my Manager console... however what or how do you get SEP installed on the server? Is the server considered a managed client and you cant do anything? be light - I am new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~Jeff

Once you isntalled SEPM console you need to install client on the same server also
becuase console will not protect from threats
you need to install a client to this server also
SEPM  is just a managemnt console

Simply install it just as any other managed client. I personally have a separate group for my SEPM Servers so I can add exceptions, etc in case problems arise, but other than that they are just normal managed clients.

SEP is installed in 2 parts, if you are installing Managed. First SEPM Console is installed on the Server and then package is created for SEP Client and this package is pushed to the workstations.

SEPM is just a Console that will be used to Manage Client activity and settings. So we need to install a SEP Client on the SEPM COnsole Server as well.

Here is an article for First time SEP installation

Title :'Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6 (RU6) for the first time'

Go to run and type %temp%

    Look for SEP_inst.log

In the log file search for Value 3

paste all the instance . It will help us to find the reason for the failure.

We need lines above the Return Value 3

i am sorry i missed that

Also uninstall live update and delete  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\liveupdate

then try to install , if it works its fine else get the the lines above Return Value 3
