--> Yes you can use both, whatever is you are comfortable with. I would go to Autograde as you dont have to package 32 / 64 bit separtely

Any Service is require to stop while upgrade the client?

    ---> No

If the client upgradation and defintion will come on same time what will happen?

--> if you are doing ugprade client will be having latest defs, it will take the package , install, then check for defs

Any effect on network if i upgrade in official time?

--> Always start with small bunches and after 6PM, just to make sure we dont choke the band width

Upgrade the client with auto upgrade feature from SEPM

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/upgrade-clients-sep-121-auto-upgrade-feature

How to upgrade Symantec Endpoint Protection clients using the Auto-Upgrade feature

No service is require to stop for upgrade

You can set the schedule to upgrade the client at non official time so that no effect on work and bandwidth issue will not be occur

Client will be restart for complete the upgradation.

I would recommend you that you can go with AutoUpgrade Feature

Any Service is require to stop while upgrade the client?

    Nope

If the client upgradation and defintion will come on same time what will happen?

First the SEP client will upgrade then upgrade the defintion

Any effect on network if i upgrade in official time?

I suggest you to upgrade at non peak hour

    Client will be restart?

    Mandatory.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

    Q. Can i upgrade it with Altiris or from SEPM AutoUpgrade function?

--> You can upgrade with either method. I heard with altiris it uses less bandwidth.

Q.Any Service is require to stop while upgrade the client?

--> No service is required to stop while upgrade the client.

    Q. If the client upgradation and defintion will come on same time what will happen?

--> SEP client perform an ugprade first & then initiates the liveupdate process.

Any effect on network if i upgrade in official time?

--> No major effect though it's recommended to perform during non production hours because restart is mandatory. I would suggest to test few clients prior to roll out across the network.

    Q .Client will be restart?

--> Yes, but you have control over the restart. Can create custom package as per requirements.

    Q. Mandatory.

--> Reboot is mandatory, For SEP 12.1 here is the detail explanations:

SEP 12.1 employs a side-by-side, replace on reboot installation strategy. Side-by-side means that new files are written to a new folder, referred to as a silo, isolated from the existing operational folder. Because the two versions are separated from each other, during a migration the older software is left running unchanged until the next reboot.

The primary benefit of side-by-side installation and replace on reboot is that the system continues to be protected by the existing software until the new version is in operation after the reboot.

This technique enables you to change the normal portion of the installation path during a migration, when applicable.
