  • 1.  SEP Client version is different then Server

    Posted Dec 21, 2014 09:24 AM

We have a strange issue regarding symantec version, the issue is the version of symantec on server different that of version deployed on Clients, and the symantec Liveupdate is regularly performing updates.

Server side version is SEP 11.0.6005.562          (Installed on Windows 2003 Server)

Client Side: SEP 11.0.7000.975                           (Installed on Windows 2008 R2 Servers)

is it install based on OS version?

    Regards,

    Agha

No. This is what was installed. You just need to upgrade the client on the server to the latest version. If you check the Admin >> Server >> Install Packages, which packages show?

Perhaps this was an old install that was forgotten about?

OS type doesn't matter here for installs, only for 32/64 bit.

Because they were never upgraded? Not sure what else you're asking here....just upgrade them.

    About upgrading client software

Were these ever upgraded in the past or attempted? Perhaps there was an issue and they rolled back.

Ultimately, this is something you will need to look into. I can only tell you how to upgrade but if an issue arises you'll need to post the SEP_INST.log to troubleshoot rollbacks.

    Hello Agha,

Upgrading to latest version is a two step process, first you will upgrade your Symantec endpoint protection manager, then you upgrade your clients, on your server, open the symantec endpoint protection manager and click on help and support, you will find your SEPM version, to see if clients were upgraded using autoupgrade feature you need to click on the clients tab and on the right side ( client packages) you will see if there are any packages assigned. Liveudpate will not upgrade clients automatically.

I feel that this server rolled back during upgrade process and its on same previous version.

either create a new group and upgrade using auto upgrade or create a new package and install it  on the server,

Upgrading Windows clients by using AutoUpgrade in Symantec Endpoint Protection

If it rolls back you can post the SEP_INST.log file otherwise you're good to go. You just need to upgrade them.

You're best off getting to 12.1 as SEP 11.x is end of life starting January 5th.

    Just FYI,

On January 5th, 2015, Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.0.x will reach end of support life. Virus definitions and security updates will cease to be published to LiveUpdate and general support for the product will no longer be provided.

The initial end of support life date was originally scheduled for January 5th, 2014. All customers were provided a complimentary extention. No further extentions will be provided
