SEP fails to replicate properly between servers
Created: 07 Sep 2010 | 9 comments
Hi,
we're experiencing a strange issue with SEP (ver. 11) here. We've got two servers to monitor the other servers but somehow these two servers never seem to show the correct amount of machines they're supposed to monitore. Refreshing won't help unless we delete the files in the 'inbox' and 'outbox' folders. Then it will show the correct number (nearly 1000) but over the next days this number declines until it is at around 600 or even 400. Replication is set to auto, we tried to change it to manual but that didn't solve it. Any ideas?

I think, it would be better to be on the latest version instead of an old version like 11.0.5002.XXX. You can download it from https://fileconnect.symantec.com
The latest version is 11.0.6100.XXX.

There's one server under the replication partners bullet point. I was told by a colleague that our system is configured that if one server fails the other one starts doing both their work. Other than that each region is configured to try to contact their 'own' server first.
Concerning updates I was told that we updated the software about three times now just to solve this issue and it never helped so far.
thanks for the help

there's no firewall between the two, although they are not in the same LAN (different VLANs though, one server is located in Europe the other one in the USA)

In SEPM go to Admin--->servers--->local site---->replication partners---><select your replication partner>--->Edit replication partner properties and select replication for logs in both directions,do a replication and try....

You have configured routing
You have configured routing between your VLans to allow communication over the different subnets?
What about broadcat traffic. SEP uses ports 135 through 137 to pass along netbios information amongst other things for clients to communicate with the servers.
Each site is configured to use it's "local" server to update clients. So, only the clients configured with each site, will "check-in" to those sites.
When you look at the logs, do you see any replication errors?
