Just wanted to add, as the author of most of the content on that KB article
, that the reason the Mac client can't be a GUP is related to the fact that they are not designed to receive content from the SEPM through the heartbeat process--not Mac content, and certainly not Windows content. Mac clients get their definitions through LiveUpdate only.

but what about SEP12 for MAC)?
it seems that the article is for 11
its still the same, as MAC client still connect symantec liveupdate for content updates.
