This issue has been solved. See solution.

Dear all,

I need some inputs on how to troubleshoot sep installation rollback.
in many pc's installation rolls back at the end. Even I tried to delete folder related to Symantec, cleanwipe but no result.
Is it possible to get any logs, where I can see what went wrong.

There are multiple reason for

There are multiple reason for SEP Roll Back
 1.  Preavious Symantec  programs files exit.
 2.  Viruses teminating the installation.
 3.  No more free memory available.

Solution:

1.  Run Clean wipe tool to uninstall and delete symantec folders if it's present in the following location:
        C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\application data\Symantec

        C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared

        C:\Program Files\Symantec

        Uninstall Live Update

Hi

Hi

As earlier informed you may go to Start>Run and type %temp%.

In the temp folder you would find the log SEP_INST

Paste the entire log or find "return value 3" and paste atleast 10-15 lines above that error.

Clean then install

On the machines it is not allowing to install due to virus...either map the C:\ to some computer ( which has sep n updated virus defs ) a manually scan it or run Nortonsecurityscan.exe NSS tool.

You may scan the infected

You may scan the infected PC's with the NSS Tool and then try to install SEP.

Thanks :-)

update

hello shp

first update your client sp3. and donwload all security and critical updates if you can.

and can you see any syptoms about virus? for example you cannot past anything, task manager is hidden and you can take a access denied message when you open regedit or task manager?
you can try to download virus remowal tool from symantec after sp3 and all updates finished.
and by the way you have administrative rights as you well know.

if you have any problems please write again.

have a nice day.

Everything works better when everything works together.

Check if Event Log is started in Services.msc

1. Check if Event Log is Started and set as automatic  in services.msc. If this service is stopped, then,
2. Download eventlog.dll file and copy it in C:\WINDOWS\system32
3. Start the Event Log services and install SEP11

I have manage to resolve on few machines after the above steps are done.
