  • 1.  SEP Live update interval question

    Hey guys,

I've been looking around on how to know and change the interval of the SEP clients on getting securiti definitions on the SEPM and the only thing I found is the on one the "communication settings" but when I look at the "heartbeat" it only says that it is the invterval of getting POLICIES on the SEPM, so I assume this is not the invterval or schedule of getting security definitions on the SEPM.

Can help me on finding where to edit the time of SEP clients connectin to the SEPM to get updates?

I also look on the Policy menu and on the liveupdate I only see the schedule of the SEPM getting updates on symantec so it's not what I'm looking for.

    Thanks,

    Hello,

Please check in the SEPM >> Policies >> Liveupdate >> Liveupdate Policy.

Edit the Liveupdate Policy and Under Windows Settings >> Schedule

This Enables or disables clients to use the Symantec LiveUpdate server in addition to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server. When this option is enabled, you can set the scheduling options that the clients use when they communicate with the Symantec LiveUpdate server.

This option is enabled by default.

Frequency - specifies how often to schedule clients to run LiveUpdate to download the latest updates. The default is Every four hours. The specific time option is available for both Daily and Weekly options. The specific day option is available for the Weekly setting only.

The Continuously option allows the client computers that infrequently communicate with the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server to get the latest updates. They get the latest updates when they connect to the network and authenticate to the server.

Note: On Mac clients, the Continuously option specifies that the client communicate with a LiveUpdate server once an hour.

Retry Window - specifies the number of hours or days to keep trying to run LiveUpdate if the scheduled run of LiveUpdate failed for some reason. This option is enabled when the Every, Daily or Weekly option is selected. The default is a two-hour retry window.

Note: Only Windows clients keep trying to run LiveUpdate. Retrying is not available for Mac clients.

Heartbeat says only about "policies" but the definitions updates are meant here as well. Basically on SEPM you cannot set any schedule for defs downloads from - the eixsting Liveupdate schedule in the LU policy applies only to Internet Liveupdate servers or internal LUA.

On SEP you have two options:

    - pull mode - clients get the policies and check if any updates are available on SEPM according to heartbeat

    - push mode- clients get the latest policies and updates as soon as SEPM have them available

If you want to have more greadual control over when the Clients are getting the defs exactly according to schedule you will need to implement LUA in the environment or use Internet Liveupdate Servers as source for updates.

The update of clients happens based on the heartbeart.

There is no option or possibility to set a schedule for internal updates like there is from external liveupdate.

Thanks, for the details, just one more question.

if the "frequency" on the schedule is for client's updating on SEPM, where can I see the schedule of SEPM updating to symantec liveupdate servers?

    Thanks,

Admin page >> Servers >> edit Site Properties and select the LiveUpdate tab and under Download Schedule select Edit Schedule

    Edit it here
