SEP Mass Uninstall

Hello all;
Due to a server death, I have had set up SEP on another server. No problem there. We manage 75 clients here inhouse.

Question: Will I have to manually uninstall clients from each individual system and then redeploy to my servers and workstations, or is
there a method to push and overwrite the currently installed clients. OR is there a method that I can mass uninstall clients using a script
or something like that.

What would be the best practice in this case.

Thanks

RickK

sylink droper IIRC is what

sylink droper IIRC is what you need to look for and it will make them connect to the new server.

no need to uninstall

You can deploy the client

You can deploy the client package using Migration and Deployment Wizard and it will over install the existing clients.

Uninstallation of the client is not required, unless you have serious issues with the client.

check the links below,

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007111409432848?Open&seg=ent

OR

If you just want all the 75 clients to be managed by the new SEPM server, you may just replace the Sylink.xml from the new SEPM to the SEP clients
There is a tool "Sylink Replacer" which will replace the Sylink.xml on the client, open a support ticket with Symantec and request for the tool.

Hi

Hello Rickk,

The clients and the Manager communicate using a file callled Sylink.xml

The clients will have this file, the file would have the IP address and host name of the SEPM

along with certificate

all the client need is a sylink file which would best discrible where the SEPM is

so when your SEPM server is crashed and when you install new SEPM server

all you need is to trasfer this sylink file to the clients
I know ( sandeep) developed sylink drop tool so that you can push the new sylink file to the clinets so that they can talk to the new SEPM

you need to get this tool from the download section and transfer this to clients so that they can talk to new SEPM

the example of sylink is here

http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007082009543848

Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : ) Rafeeq

Hey....Thanks....But I named it SylinkReplacer :)

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"

We used sylink replacer tool

We used sylink replacer tool with great success.

You can also specifiy client names or IP into a text filem for it to run.  Basically a script that copied the new sylink file to clients so they know to update from your new server.

Issue resolved

Thanks everyone for your advice. I ended up using the "Sylink Replacer Tool" and was able to reconfigure all workstations and servers in short time.
