  • 1.  SEP - Remove TotalDefense V14 during deployment

    Posted May 30, 2013 09:16 AM

Getting started with SEP and moving from the current TotalDefense v14. Currently Symantec have CA 8.1 and TotalDefense R12 listed as removable during the SEP deployment. Is there any plan to add v14 in the near future?

Or anyone else performed this same deployment and have some insight? Our TotalDefense Console is gone (the BS killed the server it was on basically) and the TD provided removal script does not actually remove when ran as a startup script : /.

    Have you tried SEPPrep?

    SEPprep competitive product uninstall tool

You may be able to add this product name to the ini config file and SEPPrep will remove it an install SEP.

Yes you just need to edit ini file in sysprep utility.

Sorry should have specified I am rolling out SEP 12.1, the SepPrep tool appears to be for SEP 11 in mind. 12.1 has this functionality built in. Can anyone advise with this in mind?

    Hi,

As mentioned above you can use SEPPrep utility to uninstall the existing AV and it is working with Sep 12.1 versions also.

When you need to remove the existing AV that we can specify on .ini file.

    Regards

    Ajin

Well clearly it's not referred to or known as SepPrep in SEP 12.1. The folder shown is called AppRemover.

I'd gone ahead about an hour ago and "added" Total Defense version 14. in the ini and zipped back up in place. Testing deployment still did not remove V14. I find hard to believe just copying and pasting then updating the numbers would allow it to uninstall the product.

Just to clarify, the SEP12.1 inbuilt third party AV removal tool and SEPprep are different tools.

The inbuilt tool is supported by Symantec and enabled by ticking the "uninstall" checkbox in the SEP Client Install Settings Package.  Whereas the SEPprep tool is found in the Part2 download from fileconnect under the Tools\NoSupport\SEPprep folder (take a look at Brian's link for more info, and "Thumbs Up" to Brian).

If this also fails to work, then you could take a look at the SEP Integration Component (SEPIC).  The below article on the SEPIC provide a bit more info on it:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO73212

One of the great things about the SEPIC, is that you can extend its ability to remove software by updating an XML file with atributes of the software you want removing.
