SEP SBE 12.0 performance, was good, what happened?

Mark Nelson's picture

I deployed SEP SBE 12.0 and was loving it.

Now my server cpu is constantly pegged or in heavy use by dbsrv9 and Semsvc.  I also see httpd and other various symantec services pop into task manager at high CPU rates.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Moving this thread over to the SBE area

Hi Mark,

I'm going to move the thread by re-tagging it with the "Small Business edition" option - that should help users see this and provide some help.  I'll alert the PM also.

Best,

Eric

Different server / release / same issues

I'm worried.

I put the latest release on a different server.  It seemed ok for a while.  We had very slow Internet browsing today and shared folder access.  Downloads were flying so I suspected DNS, which is on this server.

Sure enough.  SMC, httpd and dbserv9 are taking turns pegging or at least hitting 30+% on my processor.

Not sure what to do.  I really don't have a ton of time to troubleshot this.  It worries me as I just bought the product for two customers and have 15+ clients that are on 10.2 holding out for this product.

Is there any way to get a tech on the phone to convince me that there is nothing wrong with the product and I have something mis-configured?

Any other complaints?  I'm really nervous about the two I bought and haven't rolled out yet and I need to get these other guys moved off 10.2

Thanks!

Mark, was nvakhari able to help you?

Were you able to get on the web site he pointed you to?  Did you get any help?

Do you have a support contract with Symantec?  If you do, I encourage you to call them...set aside 3 or 4 hours as they can take a while to get on and then take a while to help, but they have been pretty good with me.

Different server / release / same issues

Hi Mark - this should not be the case. Have you tried to contact support? Is the CPU utlization stay at 30% over a long period of time or does it go away after a while?

We would like to help you. Are you in a position to open a support case and then post the case number on this forum. We can  provide immediate attention to this to help resolve the issue.

Also what are the specs on the machine RAM, CPU etc. Although 30% utilization is high, there shoudl still be room for other applications to work...

best regards,

Nimesh.

+1

Bonjour nvakhari,

I've got the same issue on a Premium SBS2003 Sp2, with huge average processor activity nearly 50% an peaks at 99% for semsvc.

The HP server fans sound noisy...

Stopping all Symantec services : SEP, SMSME, SMSUS, and running back seems to be a good workaround, but I can't ask one of the users to manage this, and do not wish to schedule such task.

SEP version is 11.0.4000.2295. Does newest one fix this, is there something else I should do ?

Thanks for any help,

Jean-Jacques

SEP SBE 12.0

Hi Jean -

SEP SBE 12.0 has done several optimizations to reduce the CPU spikes on SBS servers. In fact a lot of the otimzations done SEP SBE 12.0 is specific to SBS Server environments as this is a Small business product.

I would suggest you try the product (30-day fully functional Trialware is available on the website

Nvakhari, Problem still

Nvakhari,

Problem still occuring.
We own a full multi tier licence, i.e. SEP and SMSME to manage Exchnage anti-spam.
This is what we wish to correct.
Would SEP SBE 12.0 cover the same ?
If so, is a licence migation  plan provided by Symantec ?

Thanks,

JJ
