We currently use SEP SBE cloud.

We had a node in a high availability cluster fail.  Opened a case with Microsoft and was told it was a specific outdated SEP driver.  Opened a ticket with SEP support requesting updates and was told that the fix is only available with an EE license, which translates to more money and machines that would require this fix.  Comments below are from SEP support tech.

I really dont want to have to implement a hybrid of EE and SBE just to keep my servers from crashing.

I get that they cannot roll out updates quickly to the cloud, but feel that I should be able to get a fix via an unmanaged client.  Especially given the fact that they have identified and resolved the issue.

Im fairly new to this product.  Is there any other way to get current updates via SEP SBE licenses?

    SEP response:

The outdated driver problem for SRTSP64.sys has been fixed in 12.1.6.
The problem is that in SEP.cloud for servers, the SEP client is 12.1.4.
There is a small business unmanaged client version of 12.1.5 but this will have the same problem as the older one.
The only way out is to put an enterprise SEP client on this server.

    No, there isn't.

Based on my experience with Symantec's cloud offering, it was designed to provide a limited amount of protection to a wide audience.  Keep in mind, this is nothing more than the consumer-based Norton desktop product wrapped up in a "fancy" web front-end.  The product's complete functionality is not available to you on the web; you have to open the GUI on the desktop.  And even then, there is no way to script updates for an entire site; it is purely manual effort.  You are completely at their mercy in terms of when - or even if - product updates occur, and the changes that they introduce to your environment.  In other words:  There is no way to test this cloud-based product in a development or test environment.

For an HA environment I would not use this product.

If you want to continue to use a Symantec security product, I suggest you incur the expense of the EE version.  This will ensure that a) you get high-priority support immediately and b) you have a product that at least provides updates (I won't say on a regular basis) that you can test in a development or test environment before releasing to production.

    Hope that helps!

Edited to include a link to the following thread.

You do NOT want an HA server to have to go through something like this...
