    Dear all,

    1. When deploying a Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition .Cloud MSI by GPO how is the removal of a 3rd party security product handled silently (in our case Trend Advanced Security V9)? Currently the GPO is deployed to one machine but doesn't appear to run or runs and fails silently.

    2. In the case of Trend Advanced Security, a locally installed dashboard is available to “push” out installations of the software which is my preferred way of working. I see from this page: - http://buy.symantec.com/estore/clp/small-business-security-antivirus it states “Cloud-managed service or on-premise management option”, and I have clicked a link entitled Download On-Premise Manager in my Subscriptions page but after that I’m a little lost. I have downloaded and installed Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_SBE_12.1.5_SEPM_EN.exe but can find no way to link it to my .Cloud?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Best regards,

    Chris

For your first question, it's my understanding that in most cases manual removal is needed prior to installing the SBE agent. In some cases, it can auto-remove supported products. That list can be found here:

Removing existing antivirus and firewall products

    Hi Brian,

Many thanks for your response. I have to admit to be confused by the pletora of similarly named products i.e. is SEP SBS 2013 the same or a predessesor to SEP SBS .Cloud?

I found the article but it makes no mention of: -

    a) Trend V9 or though this has been around for a while now

    b) Does this autoremoval work when deployment is running as an MSI via GPO

    Best regards,

    Chris

Symantec made a complete mess (and bad business decision) when naming - and renaming this product. But to answer your question: Yes, they are one and the same.

The list of autoremoved products shows the ones that are supported. If V9 is not listed, you must remove it manually.

Autoremoval of listed products does work when using the MSI via GPO.

As for the SEPM (question 2 above) the license you used to access the download page should have linked the SEPM edition to your cloud account.  Contact support if you think otherwise.

    Hi Kahml,

I'm really surprised by the missing V9 as I would have thought it would be quite common out in the wild. This could be a real show stopper to be honest.

I just log in to https://hostedendpoint.spn.com and there is my console. I then click the Subscriptions tab and click a link to Download On-Premise Manager --> Tick the accept conditions box and click download --> Then click Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 2013 & 12.1 - International English --> Finally click Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_SBE_12.1.5_SEPM_EN.exe and install. At no point am I prompted for a serial key. I have tried the TRIAL-xxxxxx key in my Cloud console but SEPM won't accept it.

    Best regards,

Symantec only devotes resources where it can and has the necessary funding.  If you have to manually uninstall the software and run a clean-up exe before you install SEP.cloud, I suggest you start writing the script.

I have never tried the trial version, so I can't address how that behaves.  I am using the Managed Services subscription version.  So any time I click the Subscriptions tab and select the software for download, the serial number is pre-filled.  Activation is automatically handled on the back-end.
