SEP scan problem

huqemran's picture

When I tried to start a full scan on SEP, nothing happened. I have un-installed and then re-installed the program, but there is no improvement. Any suggestions please? Thank you.

An infection

Usually this is due to an infection.
Download the rapid release definitions:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....
Run a full scan in safe mode.
If nothing is detected, start to search the malware in your machine. GMER is often useful.
If you need help, call our Support.

RE: An infection

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks for your suggestion. I took the actions you had recommended, and 19 infections were detected and either cleaned or quarantined (when I ran SEP full scan on safe mode). However, whenever I am trying to scan on the "regular" mode, nothing happens. Is it supposed to be the way SEP is going to work from now on? Thank you very much for your advice once again.

Re

hugemran, can you try to repair your SEP installation on the control panel, add/remove?

A new infection?

It is possible that one of the 19 infections carried a new undetected infection. Try to run GMER (freeware tool). If you find somethiing suspicious, submit it to us.

SEP scan problem

try removing the SEP using the sepcleanwipes and then try upgrading your SEP to a newer version.

Update on SEP scan problem

Hi Paul,

I uninstalled and then re-installed the SEP, but the problem persists. I scanned my system by GMER, and it is showing an item in red. I tried to delete that item, but it did not work. SEP does everything else, even the liveupdate works fine; but it is not doing what it's supposed to do: scanning. Any suggestions?
