This issue has been solved. See solution.

Should I be running a self-managed version of SEP on the SEP manager server, or have I done something wrong?

I've just upgraded my SEP manager to RU5 and that worked fine, but the SEP on the server is saying it's self-managed and only at MR3. How do I upgrade this, or should I? I seem to remember reading somewhere that I didn't have to bother as it was linked to the management console, but that may have been a day-dream...

Any help greatly appreciated
Gill

Better you upgrade it to

Better you upgrade it to latest version...
Install only AVAS component and make it as managed client to get the update from server itself....

Its always better to have managed client..

You can create a group in the

You can create a group in the console for server and export a package(RU5) with only AV and AS component....  then run the setup in the server. it will upgrade the client to RU5.

REF: see the solution section to export the package

It   is better to  have the

It   is better to  have the clients managed. If you have the clients as unmanged then all the clients will go to the internet to take the update uncessary wasting the bandwidth. if they are managed the SEPM will update it self and then inturn it wll update all the clients.

How to change a Symantec Endpoint Protection client from unmanaged to managed

1.Copy of the file Sylink.xml from the server from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data\outbox\agent\
2. On the client computer , click Start > Run, type smc -stop, and click OK.
3. Copy the Sylink.xml into the C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection folder, and replace any existing Sylink.xml file.
4. Click Start > Run, type smc -start, and click OK.
OR

you can create a new package of RU5 and push it to the clients.
It will have 2 advantages:
1. The clients will upgrade to RU5
2. The clients will be managed.

Thank you

Thanks so much for all your replies.

I've no idea how it got installed as an unmanaged client - everything else is managed. It was a while ago, and my memory doesn't go back that far...

I'll do as you all suggest and upgrade and make it managed.

Thanks again
Gill
