  • 1.  SEP with WAN Accelerator

    Hey guys,

We have Riverbed Technology WAN Accelerator and we are trying to optimize the traffic from SEPM to our clients. We have clients globally and instead of setting up more LUA servers or GP clients, we would like to find a way to optimize the traffic.

We are running SEPM 12.1.4, I know they use some type of data encryption, but is there any command or options somewhere to turn it off or optimize everything with our Riverbed?

    Thanks!

    Nick

There isn't much that I know of. You can optimize traffic from SEPM to GUP. There may be something you can do within Apache but nothing specifically from the SEPM console itself.

Is WAN optimisation strictly necessary?  If client > sepm communication is becoming a bottleneck for your network I think the policy may need looking at.

How many revisions are you keeping on your SEPM?

    Hey Alex,

I don't think its strictly necessary but I think it would be optimal; it would be less GUP or LUA servers / clients and less management on our end. We only keep a few revisions on there.

Increasing the number of revisions will improve bandwidth consumption much more than any WAN optimisation would.

Thanks! We are going to do what you suggested and just use the group update providers as well.

No worries.  The Symantec recommended number is 42 revisions.  This is what we traditionally implement for customers.
