      Steps to resolev     "Error: LiveUpdate encountered one or more errors. Return code = 4" in LiveUpdate status in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    ---->Check for proxy in the network, if there  is a proxy then enter the proxy settings for LU
    ---->  Check to see if Enhanced Security is  enabled or not in Internet Explorer.If yes then Disable it
    ---->Uninstalle LiveUpdate
    ---->Delete C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate Liveupdate folder
    ---->Reinstall LiveUpdate
    ---->Registere Liveupdate to SEPM

    Opene the  command prompt browsed  to:
    C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin
    lucatalog –cleanup
    lucatalog –update

    ---->Run Liveupdate from SEPM

    Although I didn't get error 4, I had a problem with the SEPM's liveupdate not downloading AV defs (downloaded everything else) and that was because I had a 3rd party zip program (WinRar) installed; that seemed to break the handling of the zip files within LU somehow - do you have a similar program installed?

    Also, on the SEPM home page, in the definitions distribution window it will show you the latest definition version on Symantec's server and the latest definition version on your manager; I assume these are a few days apart?
