This issue has been solved. See solution.

Good day,

I am trying to install SEP11 on a WIN2003 SP2 box 32bit and it fails immediately.  All I find is a generic install failed code in the events and cannot find the SEP_Inst log in either the C:\temp folder or C:\windows\temp.  Help?  Thanks.

I tried running CleanWipe to see if there was an old version installed and that ran successfully after a couple reboots (part of the process) and it still fails immediately.

is there a SEP_INST.log in %temp%?  Are you remoting in without console session?

There is a SEP_INST.log file in c:\windows\temp but it hasn't had anything added to it for over a week and there is nothing in c:\temp.  I am not remoted into it.

I would suggest manually remove these folder ( make sure they are gone )

C:\Program Files\Symantec
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared
C:\Doc & Set\all users\App Data\Symantec

Then try installing SEP

I tried this but it sill says it was interrupted during the install.

If you had SSC on this server earlier then install Windows Installer Cleanup Utility ( from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us  )
Then remove AMS 10.0.0.0 ( if found ) then try installing SEP.

I downloaded the fix for office 2003 suites and ran it even though I don't understand why I would do this?  It has never had an office suite installed.

I tried to remove the AMS entry in the Add or Remove programs but it failed.

I then went through and manually removed AMS http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....

But I only found one thing to delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{DF65827B-E28C-4b27-A613-8D51421FD6FF}

I tried an install again but it failed

The MSI Cleanup Utility is not actually related to Office.  The page references Office, though.  I'm not sure why.

[Edit: never mind!]

use SRT (Symantec Recovery Tool) to check the system offline.
Maybe the system is infected by virus.

Hi

Hi

Also delete the Symantec folder from the registry from the following location

HKLM\Software\Symantec
HKey Current User\Software\Symantec
HKey Users\.Default\Software\Symantec

then try the installation.
Also try the Windows Install Cleanup Utility for AMS removal

Had this problem

I had this problem a day ago.
Ran through all the steps mentionned.
Realized a few things "Cleanwipe" left behind.

Go to:
- c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data   - Flush the Symantec Folder
- c:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local Settings\Application Data  - Flush the Symantec Folder
- c:\program files\common files   -- Flush the "Symantec Shared" folder.

- Uninstall Live Update from Add/Remove programs.

- In add remove programs, do you still see "Symantec EndPoint"?

- c:\program files\symantec  -- Flush this folder ONLY after you uninstalled Live Update.

* * * * * * *
You may need to run through the registry and remove all "Keys" relating to Symantec.
* * * * * * *
If you removed SEP 11.0.6a ensure the package you are trying to install is not older than the last version that was there.

IF you ran through the registry and removed keys from Symantec, you can run Auslogics Registry Cleaner...

Try to re-install after that.

Hi,

PLease run SEP Support tool and see if any error is shown.

Also, please run the Windows Install Cleanup on the server and see if you can see an entry of Symantec Endpoint Protection over there.

Somtimes, a half complete installation may leave a few traces.

Cheers,
Aniket

This is at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and the result of any search for the windows install cleanup.

"This article previously contained a link to the Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe). If you were directed to this article to solve a problem installing a product other than Microsoft Office, please contact your software manufacturer for installation support on the product.

While the Windows Installer Cleanup utility resolved some installation problems, it sometimes damaged other components installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center."

Does anyone know where I can find this file that everyone is saying I need to run?

*Nevermind. Found it at softpedia.com*
