  • 1.  SEP11 Manual Installation

    Good afternoon,

We are currently installing a few SEP 11 clients on Windows 2008 64/32bit Servers and we would like to know if a manual installation restarts IIS services? Also, I have installed it so far on about 15 servers manually and none of them have prompt me to restart my box?

SEP11 clients seem to be working fine, but just wanted to make sure if reboot is required?
Thanks in advance for your time.

    Kind regards,

    Further info:

    SEP 11 Clients: 6
    Manager: 6
    OS: Windows Server 2008 32bit SP2

Installation of SEP clients, do not restart IIS service.

A restart is required, only if you also install the network threat protection component. If you select this feature while installing, then this component get activated only after a restart.

If you did not select the network threat protection component, then you do not need to restart.

No matter if it is a Manual or Automatic installation of SEP Client ti does not required reboot of the Computer till the time you are installing Network Threat Protection component. Network Threat Protection installs Kernal Level Drivers, so it requires a reboot to enable it.

IIS Service has nothing to do with the SEP Client installation, so it will not restart IIS Services.

IIS is used by Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, but this also does not require a IIS Service Restart.

Thanks a lot for your input, much appreciated.

Both of the threads are the solution but I can only mark one. :)

SEP Client has no relation with IIS service. When u install the SEP in silent mode it will not ask you for reboot even if you have NTP but if it is unattended it wisk ask you for reboot if you are installing NTP component with it.
