  • 1.  SEP11 MR5 installtion errors on Windows 7

    Posted Feb 05, 2010 03:23 PM

We've recently run into problems on a few of our Windows 7 computers running SEP11 MR5. The problems are either:

    - The Symantec Client Management service is not started. And when you do start it manually ...
    - ...If you open the client management console on the computer, the status window is blank (AV and Antispyware, Proactive Threat Protection, Network Access Control - gone/not there)

We've uninstalled SEP and rebooted, but when we tried reinstalling it, we get the "Pending changes require reboot" error. Yes, we've gone though the PendingFileRenameOperations regedit as well as running the CleanWipe utility. Neither of those made a difference. Yes, we even created a new client install package.

Any ideas what the problem(s) could be and the fix?

BTW - we only notice this on Lenovo notebooks (T60 and W700) running Windows 7 Enterprise or Pro. Our Windows 7 Virtual Machines do not experience the same problem - they work just fine.

Keep System Event Notification service on Automatic and Started. Now you should be able to start Symantec Management Client Service.

For T400 laptops ensure that they are running the Lenovo System Update 4 (for Windows 7).

    If above solution not works
    Go to add/remove programs
    select SEP
    Click on change
    In the wizard click modify
select all features and try to install once again..
