SEP11 RU6 MP3 Server (11.0.6300.803) on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Hello,

I know that Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 wasn't officially supported until the release 11 RU7.

However I'm wondering if there are any real known issues when applying Service Pack 1 to a 2008 R2 system running RU6 MP3 Server (11.0.6300.803).

The reason is lack of knowledge about the product and time to learn/investigate. My customer has rights to upgrade to 11 RU7 or even to 12.1.3 (RU3) but my experience says that upgrading rarely is as straight forward as migration guides says.

Can anyone share some upgrade experiences and thought on my options?

Thanks

I'm not sure if you've seen this:

Now, here's what I can say from experience. We have some older versions, specfically 11.0.5, running on 2008 R2. It is not officially supported but it does work as expected.

Being that it is not officially supported, if something goes wrong, it's on you and support will tell you it's not supported, move to a supported version.

So I guess in the end, it's your decision. But for me, it works fine.

Sorry, it's not the perfect answer but I'm not sure there is one in this case. cool

If you can, go to a supported version.

As per the system requirements of 11.0.6 (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH131642) it is not supported on Windows 2008 R2 SP1. But I have seen it working, as said by Brian.

One suggestion is to use IE8. I have seen some compatiblity issues between IE9 and 11.0.6.

I have also installed same version in my last project and working fine.

Thanks for your answers.

Brian you mention that you run 11.0.5 on 2008 R2. Do you mean 2008 R2 with or without SP1?

AJ_01 which versions of SEP and 2008 R2 are you refering to?

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

If have an approvals then I would suggest to upgrade the SEPM first.

SEPM 11.0.6300.803 to SEP 12.1 RU3 is the supported upgrade path.

Upgrade to SEP 12.1 RU3 can be the best option.

Upgrade to the latest available release of SEP to enjoy many other enhancements and improvements.

I decided to upgrade to 12.1.3 to be on a supported version for SP1. The upgrade went well.

Thanks to everyone for such quick and good answers.
