  • 1.  SEP11 scan backup media?

    Posted Dec 10, 2010 06:17 AM

    Hi,

Bit of cross over between SEP11 MR4 and Backup Exec 12.5

Looking for anything official or documented on what best practices would be for dealing with backup media that has been used during an undetected virus infection (full data and system state backups)?

And also whether or not there is anyway to scan the infected media using SEP11 MR4?

Still searching through KB articles and discussions here for anything similar, but any links would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Thanks Rafeeq,

I read through that, but it appears to be related to installing SEP and BE on the same server and recommended exclusions?

I'm looking more for info on any way to scan potentially infected physical media, or confirmation that it isn't possible with SEP11.

Also any recommendations on best practice for dealing with potentially infected media.

    Francis

you can scan it using the recovery CD.

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/idea/antivirusantispyware-scanning-recovery-boot-cd

Symantec will not scan a infected USB when its inserted, however  autoprotect will can when files are accessed.

you can mount any media and run a scan - right click - scan..

or use NSS tool to scan any infected machine

    its all possible

Not  SEP, but, i think Symantec Scan engine would scan an infected  media...Please  contact Sales.

The Symantec Endpoint  Recovery tool will NOT scan an infected  media!
