    With Office 2007 and 2010 they list; Improved damaged-file recovery    

    Files are structured in a modular fashion that keeps different data components in the file separate from each other. 

    This allows files to be opened even if a component in the file (for example, a chart or table) is damaged or corrupt. 

    The question I have is will this increase the amount of time Symantec Endpoint Protection scan times?

    I am using 2007 and have not noticed any scan duration differences, so as far as I can tell, there is no difference in scan times significant to make me notice.  We use Office 2007 heavily here on over 10,000 PC's, so I think I would notice if it were happening.

    Echoing what blenahan said...on a mix of 2007 and 2010 here and have not seen or heard of any issues from our users.

    I created a test

     

    First test
     
    Folder Contains 2 files/ 2 excel spreadsheets Office 2010
     
    SEP11 scanned 48 files took 12 seconds to scan
     
     
    Folder Contains 2 files/ 2 excel spreadsheets Office 2002
     
    SEP11 scanned 2 files took 2 seconds to scan
     
     
    Second test 
     
    Folder Contains 9 files/ 9 excel spreadsheets Office 2010
     
    SEP11 scanned 361 files took 1:47
     
     
    Folder Contains 9 files/ 9 excel spreadsheets Office 2002
     
    SEP11 scanned 9 files took 4 seconds
     
    So going from my test the way Office 2007 and 2010 store the files it does increase scan times.

    Did you test access times as well?

    Very hard to tell any difference in times when opening a document, that is a good thing.
