Okay, not trying to be a cheapskate here, but really, I'm finding that the renewal license fees for SEP12SBS are too costly for me.

I have a small business with 12-15 computers that I really would like to manage with a centralized anti-virus program.  I like SEP12, I think it works reasonably well (had some big issues early on, though!).   The initial cost of the program, about $700 for 25 user licenses was okay, but then after a year and getting hit up for just about the same price to continue using the software, I felt was just way too much.

The cost jump from 10 to 25 users is double price. The renewal prices are almost the same as the full software program.  If the renewal fee was half of the cost of the software, I wouldn't be here complaining.  But to be forced into re-buying 25 licenses every year at that price just seems unreasonable.

I can go onto other reseller websites and purchase the whole SEP12SBS 25user edition for less than $300, while Symantec licensing wants over $600 to continue using what I already paid $700 for a year ago.  ???

So, i've figured out that the centralized management console won't auto-update any more with the licenses expired, and I can manually update it.  But, it still won't push any updates out to the clients, so its just a completely wasted program now.

My only choice I see that seems to make sense is to use everybody in unmanaged mode untill I feel like re-purchasing the entire software package again for a 1 year period, or I decide on an alternative.  I'm sorry for the whining here, but to me, it just seems totally unreasonable.  Thanks, but no thanks.

There are too many choices out there, and I don't think Symantec is the best, just a good option.  I spent 6 months initially fighting the stupid "Fake AntiVirus" browser infections on a bunch of my machines that SEP12 wasn't setup to catch that most free software did. That was so annoying.  SEP12 finally catches that stuff now as it should, but it wasted so much of my time.   And they want me to pay the high yearly fees.  I'm sorry, can't justify it.

I understand your concerns for costs. I am not sure why the resellers have such a lower price. What is keeping you from buying the package from the reseller at the $300 cost?

Another option for you to look into is our Symantec.cloud products. With Endpoint Protection.cloud you will no longer need to run a dedicated server in your environment. The Endpoint product provides comprehensive security for your computer systems as a hosted service, helping you to protect your business without installing additional hardware or management software.

Hi jonelli, I am in the Licensing Team. You said that when your support expired you are finding the renewal cost is the same or more than what you initially spent?

Sounds you are not looking at a renewal but a purchase of the same product again.

Using your "M" serial number from your initial purchase, go here:
    https://renewals.symantec.com/renewals/application?source_code=WEB&entry_point=sym_lrc

This is the renewals center at the Symantec Store. So long as your support contract has not been expired for more than 90 days, you can renew the support contract.
