    SEP SBE Cloud Edition.

How frequently do clients check for definition updates ?

Do they just check several times a day  ? four times a day etc ?

Or are they constantly checking and pull downloads from the cloud as and when they are available proactively.

For instance could a SEP SBE Cloud Edition client pull multiple/many downloads per day ?

And can this in any way be configured either on the client itself or in the cloud portal ?

Or is this not possible to change the configuration, ie it just happens 24x7 automatically continiously.

Virus definitions are pulled down automatically several times per day.

The Administrator's Guide (https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.DOC7525.html) does not specify the frequency.

It is not possible to change the configuration for virus definitions; however, you can influence when LiveUpdate runs for the other components via Policy changes (page 66) in the above mentioned guide.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community

Hosted Endpoint portal do not provide definitions update.SEP.cloud should have internet connection & it directly pulls definitions from the internet.

Certified content is typically released three times a day Monday through Friday; one time per day on weekends.

As soon as updates are available on liveupdate server clients will fetch it.

Though by default clients directly fetch udates from liveupdate server can configure local update host to update clients, it works like Group Update Provider (GUP). But internet connection is required.

As I understand it, GUP will only work on a server OS with SBE 4.0 and 12.1 and it will work on a desktop OS with Enterprise, is that correct?

Will it work on a desktop OS with SBE Cloud implemented with on-premises management?  With cloud management?

I have numerous clients with WANs connecting several small offices.  In the past SBE has saturated the links because each PC had to pull the updates from the console because there is no server in the remote offices.  I want to be sure that we won't have the same issue if we move to SBE Cloud.

    Thanks,

    Dave

GUP works on both desktop OS & Server OS in Enterprise Edition. When we promote any machine as a GUP it's nothing but a normal SEP client.

In SEP.cloud environment where bandwidth is limited, it may be favorable to limit the number of machines which connect to the internet for updates in which case we recommend enabling Live Update Hosts (LUH). Clients defined as LUHs download virus definitions and software updates from the internet and redistribute them locally to the rest of the machines in their purview

Refer this guide: SEP SBE .Cloud: Local Update Hosts and their Implementation
